General Residency Requirements for Citizenship by Conferral

To qualify for Australian Citizenship through conferral, you must generally:

• Be 18 years of age or older.

• Have been living in Australia on a valid visa for a total of four years immediately before applying.

• Hold a permanent visa for the 12 months immediately before applying.

• Not have been absent from Australia for more than 12 months in total over the last four years, and no more than 90 days in the 12 months immediately before applying.

• Be of good character, demonstrating that you are likely to respect and obey Australian laws.
